Zimbabwe in Meltdown
– a special United Kingdom panel discusses the situation
of Zimbabwe
With Zimbabwe spiralling out of control, can Mugabe be ousted,
who can rebuild a shattered nation and why are Zimbabwe's
neighbours doing so little?
With Wilf Mbanga (The Zimbabwean), Gugulethu Moyo (International
Bar Association), Bill Saidi (Zimbabwean journalist, via phone
link) and Daniel Howden (The Independent). Moderated by Allan
Little.
Arnold Tsunga, Zimbabwean
human rights activst and lawyer speaks on the situation and
his experiences.
Arnold Tsunga is a leading Human Rights defender in Zimbabwe.
He has repeatedly denounced the undemocratic system of justice.
He has been threatened, detained, and is constantly harassed.
Human rights defenders like Mr. Tsunga have become lonely
voices of dissent in Zimbabwe as independent media outlets
have been closed down and opposition political parties are
being stifled. The government of Zimbabwe restricts operations
of human rights organisations through legislation such as
the Public Order and Security Act and Private Voluntary Organisations
Act.
